CONSUMER PRICE INDEX - JULY 2023

 

  • Overall CPI-U Increase: The CPI-U increased by 0.2% in July, mirroring the increase in June. Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased by 3.2% before seasonal adjustment.


  • Shelter Index: The shelter index was the largest contributor to the monthly increase, accounting for over 90% of the rise.


  • Food Index: The food index increased by 0.2% in July, with the index for food at home increasing by 0.3%.


  • Energy Index: The energy index rose by 0.1% in July, with mixed results across major energy components. However, it decreased by 12.5% for the 12 months ending in July.


  • All Items Less Food and Energy: This index rose by 0.2% in July, the same as in June, and increased by 4.7% over the last 12 months.


  • Yearly Comparison: The all items index increased by 3.2% for the 12 months ending in July, slightly more than the 3.0% increase for the 12 months ending in June.
